Steps to fill driving license application are as follows:

Step 1: Choose Driving School

Qatar is a nation that has a unique combination of facilities and technologies. Step 2: Apply for NOC (No Objection Certificate)

  • Qatari males are not obligated to have a NOC.
  • Qatari females are required to obtain a NOC from a guardian.
  • Expatriates must be sponsored by providing a NOC to them by their sponsoring companies.

Step 3: Eye Test ( Vision Test)

An eye test is a requirement to get a driving license. Certain driving schools provide the facility of an eye test (vision test) at their office, and this will update your result on the MOI site in case you go through an eye test.

The eye test is conducted by a qualified ophthalmologist or optometrist at the traffic department; otherwise, the eye test can be carried out elsewhere. One must pay a fee for this test, which can range from QR 50 to QR 25.

Step 4: Choose a Course for a Driving License

Many licensed driving schools offer courses on various types of vehicles, with instructors of both genders. In case you are an international student with driving skills, you can be given an exemption from half of the course after seeking consent from the Traffic Department.

Here, you are expected to give them your foreign driver’s license, and they will recommend an appropriate course.

Step 5: Submit Documents and Pay the Fee

There are several papers that the traffic department requires to identify you. The list of documents required at the time of registration is as follows:

  • Legitimate Qatar ID, not less than 18 years old
  • Sponsor NOC ( Metrash app)
  • Three recent Colour passport-size photographs. (In case you wear eyeglasses, a photo wearing spectacle glasses will do)
  • Eye test (Vision test) certificate
  • Original, Previous country driver’s License in case you are applying for a half-course
  • Pay Fee

Once all the papers and fees are filed, the cost of attending a driving school ranges between QR 250 and QR 600. Your driving school will open an account where you can also access theory lessons in the form of a PDF or CD. Some good schools offer their mobile applications and websites that provide effective learning materials.

Step 6: Theory Lesson & Test for Driver’s License

On this step, you begin to learn and evolve. To start with, you study theory lessons, composed of driving laws and regulations, traffic signs, ethics of driving, and so on. In the classroom, you will be issued a tablet or computer, which you can use to learn and track your progress.

To test themselves and enhance their experience in some schools, they have created software that allows aspirants to test themselves. Additionally, to have the best control over the steering, some schools even provide simulator training.

You are allowed to take the theory test after the theory lessons. It consists of only 40 questions, and one must answer 37 of them correctly to pass this test. This test can be taken in several languages and is now performed online, providing convenience for aspirants.

Step 7: Practical Lessons for Qatar Driving License

Once you successfully pass the theory test, you begin your actual training experience with the driving instructor, as you would learn in real-time experience on the road, steering a car.

It is the primary section of your course. It is your responsibility to decide on your driving instructor. If you require a female instructor, you can charge more.

Step 8: Road & Parking Test

Once you are confident of your abilities, you will be scheduled for a date to undertake the road test. Whereby, a traffic officer and 2 other individuals will ride together with you in a vehicle, and they will watch your driving school. After the road test is completed, you will be given a date for the parking test.

During the parking test, you are required to pass the letters L and P. These tasks must be relayed on the same day. P refers to Parallel parking, and L refers to perpendicular parking. Upon successfully passing this test, you will be automatically issued a driving license.

How to get NOC using Metrash for a Qatar Driving license

As of March 1st, 2025, Metrash2 will stop functioning because MOI has released a new version called Metrash Application, which can be downloaded via the Google Play Store and the App Store.

  • Register with the Metrash mobile application
  • Select “Traffic”
  • Choose License Service
  • Do View and select License NOC
  • Fill in All the QID, Visa Number, etc.

Read and check all the information and press Next. An alert on the Metrash app will be sent to you.

You can get NOC easily in another method, the e-portal by MOI.

How to Get Driving License NOC Using E-Portal on the MOI Website

To access e-services, you are supposed to have a smartcard or use the Metrash app.

  • For NOC, make the choice to be A driving License.
  • Smartcard log-in
  • One should choose the type of transaction you need (Personal for the owner of the smart card or Company Name for the authorised person).
  • Click on the option Traffic Services
  • Pick the Request Details page NOC.
  • Use the Visa number or the person sponsored’s QID in the required box.
  • Choose the necessary category of driver’s license.
  • Enter the necessary permission (Issue a New or Replace Lost License).
  • Pick the option to confirm the request details by clicking on the option of confirm option.
  • In order to create another NOC, press the button titled New Entry, and repeat the above steps.

Visitors who are permanent residents or citizens of the following countries are eligible to undergo a direct exchange of their foreign driving license for a Qatar driving license, thereby avoiding the conventional tests and procedures.   • 3 latest Coloured passport size Photos (With glasses in case they would be used for driving)

Some advice for driving in QATAR:
